Fine silver usually called pure silver is laboratory gradable at .999 parts in 1,000. The remaining .001 part is considered inseparable elements or not silver.
Sterling silver is .925 part silver with .070 parts copper and .005 parts tin. Because tin taints this is why sterling silver needs to polished or cleaned.

Sterling melts at 1640o F.
