Sodalite refers to its soduim content. Only the blue varity of theis stone is used in jewelry. Normally always found in cabochon form for jewelry and also for ornamental stone. It has a refractive index of 1.48 amd a mohls hardness of 5.5-6. There is a pink coloured varity from Canada called Hackmanite but the colour will fade in daylight.
